Particles for Humanity Completes Process Validation for Manufacturing PFH-VAP
July 22, 2025 (Cambridge, MA). Particles for Humanity has successfully completed process validation for the commercial-scale manufacturing of PFH-VAP, the company's lead product. This novel, dry powder, vitamin A formulation is developed for use in large scale food fortification and manufactured at LIS by Lesaffre in Cérences, France. This critical milestone confirms that PFH-VAP can be produced consistently, at high quality, and is ready for commercial use, advancing the company's mission to address vitamin A deficiency in Africa.
The validation confirmed that every step of the production process performs reliably, from mixing ingredients to drying and packaging the final product. This work utilized LIS by Lesaffre proven expertise in food ingredient manufacturing, established food-grade validation framework, and their GMP (good manufacturing practices)-compliant systems.
"Completing process validation at LIS is a significant step toward bringing PFH-VAP to market at scale," said Sherri Oberg, CEO of Particles for Humanity. "This achievement strengthens our capacity to meet commercial demand and deliver on our mission to get stable vitamin A to people in Africa who need it."
PFH-VAP was developed for use in large scale food fortification to withstand the hot and humid conditions commonly found in West Africa that often cause vitamin A to degrade. This degradation limits the impacts of vitamin A fortification programs. The first application of PFH-VAP is being developed to fortify bouillon, which is consumed by 80% to 99% of households in West Africa, including in low-income communities where vitamin A deficiency (VAD) is most common. In March 2025, Particles for Humanity announced a license agreement with Hexagon Nutrition Limited for rights to manufacture and distribute PFH-VAP for fortifying bouillon cubes in Africa. Through its partnerships with LIS by Lesaffre in France, and Hexagon Nutrition in India, Particles for Humanity is thrilled to be one step closer to bringing stable vitamin A to people who need it most.
